Forward-looking investments

Siedle carries out all its development and manufacturing exclusively at its headquarters in Furtwangen in the Black Forest. This is where the roots of this long-established family business lie; it is now run by the seventh generation of the family. And it is here that Siedle is investing heavily to maintain its position as a leader in innovation in building communications and to secure the site’s future in the long term.

Quality assurance and responsibility

"Siedle and Furtwangen go hand in hand," says Gabriele Siedle, Chair of the Management Board. Under her leadership, the company has laid down its commitment to the location in its guiding principles.

Siedle produces its products in Furtwangen in the Black Forest as a matter of principle. In this way, the company carries out many of the processing stages in-house and generates a large proportion of the added value locally.  This is crucial when it comes to continuous quality assurance, short transport distances and rapid availability.

What is more, Siedle's commitment to the location is part of its corporate responsibility – it safeguards jobs in the region.

Siedle Fertigung Baugruppen

Made in Furtwangen

Siedle is impossible to miss in Furtwangen: two factories are situated right in the centre of the town. Here, Siedle invests in high-tech production processes such as printed circuit board manufacturing: the electronic components inside the intercom systems are, of course, manufactured in Furtwangen.

However, Siedle also manufactures components in-house that other companies have outsourced. Power supplies and transformers are produced in the coil-winding and assembly departments. Siedle takes pride in its expertise in power supply units and relies on its own production facilities.

Siedle Logistikzentrum

State-of-the-art logistics

Siedle also operates a large logistics centre in Furtwangen – even though the town is connected neither to the rail network nor to a motorway. Nevertheless, the logistics here are just right: the distances between delivery, production and dispatch are short, and so are the response times. Siedle can deliver the products requested by customers swiftly and goes to great lengths to ensure that this remains the case.

For example, Siedle has invested more than 2 million euros in an automated small-parts warehouse featuring robotic technology. Goods are automatically stored and retrieved. High-tech solutions ensure leaner production with minimal stockholding: so that intercom systems from Furtwangen can reach the whole world even faster.

Innovation and expertise

Siedle invests heavily – including in innovation and the expertise of its skilled workforce. More than 50 Siedle employees in Furtwangen are working on the technological advancement of building communication, including software and hardware development. Siedle invests around 10 per cent of its turnover in research and development; this is above the industry average.

Since 2016, Siedle has invested a total of more than 20 million euros. This investment is spread across all areas and underlines the company’s commitment to its Furtwangen site in the Black Forest. These are forward-looking investments: for the company, for Furtwangen, and for the region and its people.

As a result, the proportion of in-house production has risen further, whilst delivery times have fallen.

Siedle Fertigung Baugruppen

Printed circuit board manufacturing

Siedle manufactures some of the printed circuit boards for its intercom systems in Furtwangen. In recent years, Siedle has invested around 1 million euros in state-of-the-art machinery for this production area. With this innovative machinery, Siedle produces high-tech components of the highest quality and is taking an important step towards the connected factory (‘Industry 4.0’).

Siedle still produces transformers and line rectifiers itself. The company has recently overhauled its machine fleet in Furtwangen and invested 500,000 euros. The high level of vertical integration at the site means Siedle is less dependent on the global market and safeguards jobs in Germany.
